Byrdcliffe Furniture BookMany people are aware of Gustav Stickley’s furniture, and other furniture made in the Arts & Crafts period of the early 20th century, but few are aware of the contribution made by the Byrdcliffe colony. Most woodworkers I know have only seen two or three examples. One of the reasons for that is that Byrdcliffe was only made for a few years. It was a productive small shop, not a factory. I’ve uncovered more pieces that are just as breathtaking. The designs from Byrdcliffe, almost entirely the work of Zulma Steele and Edna Walker are among some of the nicest furniture ever produced and are a significant part of what was produced in the period. My new book tells the story of this furniture with both text chapters based on my research, and detailed drawings of 28 pieces of furniture.
